Recently I tried a “trend” that I got to admit I was very skeptical to try at first. Turns out it’s a great way to get more use out of the suits in your wardrobe. That “trend” is breaking up your suits into separates and mixing/matching jackets and trousers.
I have this one favorite suit of mine that has definitely been featured on this blog before. Last week I decided to bite the bullet and see how it would look pairing the jacket separately with a different pair of trousers and the trousers with a different jacket. Well here’s how it looked:
Turns out my skepticism was wrong about breaking up the suit, I find it looked great although I will admit I preferred the look of the jacket with the grey trousers than I did the trousers with the navy blazer. Guess sometimes the “trends” are good after all.
I will leave you with some tips though if you are planning on giving this a go.
If your suit is patterned like mine, pair the pieces with a neutral color.
Solids of different colors match together. Create that contrast!
Feeling daring? Go pattern on pattern BUT the patterns must be different scales (ex. large stripes with a subtle houndstooth)
Own that shit! Seriously it’s all in the confidence, if you’re not comfortable wearing the combo, it will show to observers.
There you have it my friends, a new way to wear your suits and a refreshing breath of fresh air to your old ones. Have a great weekend!
So I was at work at Brooks Brothers last night, pondering what I would buy to make up my Christmas outfit (I know believe me, I don’t want to think about the C-word yet either) but we recently got in a few (3) brilliant silk knit Christmas sweater ties. Picture one of those cheesy C-Word Sweaters, but on a tie! Anyone that knows me knows I would definitely wear and pull off something like that. Now I had been planning to buy it for a while, putting it off until December. But last night I realized, why not buy it now that way in December I can focus on gifts for others and not myself (What a grown up thing to say eh?). So I ended up pulling the trigger on it. Oh and what did I get to go along with that tie? Just a pair of red cashmere socks that were 60% off. Also used my 60% regular employee discount on the tie.
Think I’m going to pair these babies up with my white oxford, grey tweed pants and potentially my red cardigan. That should make a hell of a festive outfit. And if anyone thinks the tie is too cheesy or whatnont, to me it symbolizes a reminder not to take yourself too seriously all the time, loosen up, have fun with a holiday look! Ok now that is the last I will mention with regards to that time of year until next month!
Brad Pitt’s stylist or tailor ought to be fired, the hem on those pants is way too long, the break should just be touching the top of the shoe and the pants should be a tad more fitted, kids take note for this is a dapper don’t!
